PRODUCT INFORMATION
The patented SecurShade security shade system is designed to function as both a commercial-grade manual window shade treatment and as a remotely operated window covering system to improve the safety and security of a building’s occupants and furnishings.
The SECURSHADE system can be installed on both interior and exterior windows in every room in a building that could be subject to threat - severe weather or human. Within each room there is a Node, at least one Switch, and usually a remote. There is also a Gateway that monitors and controls the system. (See Fig SSI Function Schematic at right)
The Node is hard-wired (16 ga low voltage) in parallel to a series of up to seven window shades. The switch, usually located by the door, is hard wired to the Node. The remote, paired to a particular Node, communicates wirelessly (LoRa) with its Room Node. Either the switch or remote can send a “local” or emergency message.
The “local” message causes only the SecurShades hard wired to that particular Node to close. The emergency message commands the Nodes to close all their shades and simultaneously to send out another emergency message creating a strong mesh network activating all the Nodes within range. The emergency message is also picked up by the Gateway which turns the monitor bright red and indicates where the emergency was activated. This same message can be texted to appropriate authorities so they can better make better decisions regarding an appropriate response.
The emergency signal causes all the SecurShades with that particular campus ID to close and an alert sent out within five seconds. This will remove sight lines and provide a strong visual alert as well as protection from flying glass.
Under regular everyday use, SecurShades are raised and lowered manually by a looped chain. They can function as an energy efficient window shade that lets natural light in while keeping heat out in summer, and retain heat in winter.
The system is designed to be activated every night and on weekends. This pattern of activation is strongly encouraged as it ensures the shades full benefit (privacy, security, heat control etc.) as well as audits the system identifying any malfunctioning shades quickly. The system can be integrated with other building management systems

other applications
While SecurShade was primarily developed in response to requests from our K-12 school clients, it is an inexpensive system that could even be used in the home as part of a security system or bigger and broader applications, both in the and out of the US, where a SecurShade's energy efficient, low cost, automatic, remote closing system would be advantageous including:
